The Trailer Train Company was formed in 1956 by the Pennsylvania Railroad and Norfolk and Western Railway and Rail Trailer Co. The name for the company came from a drawing of 6,000 entries from Pennsylvania Railroad employees. This company started the standards for the rail industry in TOFC or "Trailer on Flat Car".
